SIGGRAPH Asia 2008 presents
An Evening with Vibeke Sorensen

Synthetic Characters in
an Imperfect World

Vibeke Sorensen is an artist and professor working in digital multimedia and animation, interactive architectural installation, and networked visual-music performance. Her work in experimental new media spans three decades, and has been published and exhibited worldwide, including in books, galleries, museums, conferences, performances, film festivals, on cable and broadcast television, and the internet. She was also the Programme Chair for SIGGRAPH 2007 Art Gallery “Global Eyes”.

Taking the academy short film award winning movie Ryan as an example, Vibeke will talk about how to bridge the gap between documentary and animation and how computer animation is increasingly involved in documentaries. She will also address topics like the art of making an animated character realistic and the aesthetic and scientific issues to be considered when animating a character. A screening of the short film “Ryan” will also be included.
